Safety Tips

myKindreds is focused on helping you find and foster and foster meaningful friendships at every stage of your life. We want your online experience to be a fun and safe way to meet others who share your common interests so you can then take your friendship from being a ‘virtual’ one online to a ‘real’ one – where you meet face to face for meaningful relationships. As such, we recommend that you proceed with caution when interacting with anyone new in order to ensure your own safety. We do not perform background checks on our users. Please review the safety tips we provide below and remember that you are in control of your own experiences.
  • Do not give out your myKindreds account username and password to someone else. To minimize risk of someone accessing your personal information, select a secure password. To help you with a secure password, please refer to Wikipedia Password strength - Common guidelines.
  • Do not give out your bank account number, social security number or any other personal information.
  • Be wary of any form of solicitation to buy products or send money to someone, especially in the form of a wire transfer or Western Union.
  • Be wary of someone telling you that you have won something and all you have to do to collect the prize or money is to provide some personal information.
  • myKindreds will NOT send emails with links to you to update or verify your account information. Never access myKindreds from a link in an email as it may be redirected to a page that will collect your log on information.
  • Be cautious when clicking on any links provided by another person, especially before you have established a trusted relationship with them.
  • Be wary of anyone asking questions related to where you might bank and historical information such as pet names, types of pets, high school attended, your mother’s maiden name, or any such common questions that financial institutions use to verify your identity.
  • Be cautious of someone pushing to communicate outside of myKindreds. Communicating within myKindreds is the safest way for you to control the information you want to share or allow someone else to see.
  • Unfortunately, there are people who will use the anonymity of the internet to potentially misrepresent themselves. Such people will provide false or misleading information about their intentions and their profile.
  • Should a friend lead to an in person meeting, a first meeting should be in the daytime if at all possible and in a public place with other people around. Bring your cell phone and have it turned on. Let a friend or family member know about the meeting, where it is, when it is and be sure to call them before and after the meeting. Do not meet with someone who has not provided at least one profile picture so you know what they look like.
  • You are under no obligation to accept a friend request from anyone. If you do not feel comfortable with the conversation or you just have not learned enough about the person making the friend request, then just wait. Take your time and ask as many questions as you need to be comfortable. Never feel like you need to accept a friend request for fear of offending the other person.
